Thursday Pick-Me-Ups: Let’s Get Happy For A Moment

Posted on Oct 11 2012 - 4:34pm by Logan Rapp

In the midst of so much sucking all the damn time, you’ve got to pick out those moments and enjoy it.

Or to quote Kurt Vonnegut: “I urge you to please notice when you are happy, and exclaim or murmur or think at some point, ‘If this isn’t nice, I don’t know what is.’”

So, we’re going to show you some nice things.

Art Student Thinks You Deserve A Flower

Nathan Ira is a fine arts student, so he’s already planning a life of crippling debt and parental concern. (Okay, sorry, this is supposed to be happy.)

Anyway, Ira dispersed over a hundred flowers with a simple message: “For whatever you’re dealing with, you deserve this. Along with the message was his e-mail address and encouragement to send in stories on what the flower meant to the recipient.

Here’s one message:

Hey stranger,
Thanks a lot for noticing little details about others where lots of people just pass by.
I was really having a bad day, struggling with my study notes. It was my first exam in America and i felt extremely nervous. When you first handed me the flower, i was a little shocked because in Turkey we are not used to this kind of “thoughtful people”. After reading your note i just got relaxed and became more comfortable with myself and the exam. It is probably one of the effects of that lovely flower.

“Sometimes you can tell by the look on their faces or the way they walk” that the person could use a flower, says Ira.

Hero Rescues Family From Submerged Car, Leaves Before Thanked

A family consisting of a ten-year old girl, her mother and grandmother got in a terrible accident that left a tree on their car slowly pushing said car deeper into a lake.

A man saw the accident, then lifted the tree off the car so that the family could escape. He waited until rescue crews arrived, and then took off, probably never to be seen again.

It is unknown if his name is Bruce Wayne, but I’m just saying.

Missing Dog Returns To Family, Takes Family To His Trapped Sibling

Two Golden Retrievers, Baxter 4 and Bailey 6, are brothers. They were leashed together when they first went missing. Baxter was eventually recovered around October 8th, and his owner, Penny Blackwell (who has a name I am now using for a screenplay) took him back to the general area where he was found.

Baxter was all, “I got this,” and after a treacherous walk through the underbrush, found right where Bailey was, their leash still caught in the brush. Baxter must’ve been able to get out and ran for help.

Both dogs came back a little underweight, but were otherwise completely fine.

And Finally: Lego Ninja Turtles

Boom.
