Tesla Motors unveiled it’s top secret Supercharging stations yesterday that will allow the cars to travel long distances with throughout California, parts of Nevada, and Arizona.
The technology that created the Supercharger was developed internally and uses the tech that is already in the Model S, Tesla will be able to create the device at minimal cost.
On top of that, the electricity used by the Supercharger comes from a solar car port system that is provided by Solar City making marginal the cost after installation almost zero. After combining these two factors, Tesla will be able to provide owners of the vehicles long distance travel relatively free of charge.
The company plans on installing Superchargers across the United States and eventually all over the globe.
Tesla Motors was founded in 2003 by a group of Silicon Valley engineers out to prove that electric cars would be a viable source of transportation. The company currently has 3 models: The Model S starting at $60,000, The Roadster starting at $128,000, and the not yet released Model X which you can reserve with a deposit of $5000
Question:
Would you purchase an electric car (like a Tesla) if it were the same price as the average car now that it can travel long distances with the newly installed Superchargers?
