Authorities say a 17-year old Colorado teenager has confessed to the abduction and murder of 10-year old Jessica Ridgeway.
Austin Sigg is a 17-year old resident of Colorado, having lived less than a mile away from Jessica Ridgeway. Authorities found what they call “overwhelming” DNA evidence against Sigg.
It was Sigg’s mother who made the initial call that tipped police off to the suspect. When the Associated Press called for comment, she said, “I made the phone call, and he turned himself in. That’s all I have to say.”
Jessica disappeared on October 5th while walking to school. Her remains were found five days later.
Sigg will also face charges relating to a kidnapping attempt earlier in the year. He attempted to abduct 22-year old woman using a rag that she said smelled of chemicals. Authorities say that the cases are related, but haven’t elaborated on why.
Reports from police say Austin was cooperative when he was arrested and waived his rights.
Former high school classmates noted Sigg was an intelligent student who often wore black. Others say he was interested in mortuary sciences and was taking forensics classes.
Question: Can Colorado rest a little easier?
