18-year-old Jacob Cox-Brown from Astoria, Oregon was arrested on Wednesday for a hit and run. Why is this news, you ask? Jacob was arrested because he posted about the incident on his Facebook profile.
Jacob’s exact words were, “Drivin drunk … classsic but to whoever’s vehicle i hit i am sorry. ”
A friend of Jacob forwarded the message to an Astoria police officer, and after matching the damage from Jacob’s vehicle to the accident report, the arrest was made.
Jacob was booked on 2 counts of failing to perform his duties as a driver. He was not booked for drunk driving because the only evidence they had of intoxication was the post and that would not be sufficient evidence in court.
The Astoria Police Department released a statement later that day:
“Astoria Police have an active social media presence,” a press release from Astoria Police read Wednesday. “It was a private Facebook message to one of our officers that got this case moving, though. When you post … on Facebook, you have to figure that it is not going to stay private long.”
Speaking of dumb people, remember this girl?
