Last night, Former President Bill Clinton joined Stephen Colbert at the Clinton Global Initiative, and got more than what he bargained for from the pundit.

The two got down to business talking about why Clinton runs the Global Initiative, the former President stating:

“It makes me happy. I think after the life I’ve been given by the American people, I think I’d be a slug if I didn’t do it. I think I’m just doing what I should do and it makes me happy.”

Later on in the evening, they were discussing social networking which Clinton admitted that he does not really partake in email or other social networks. He cited that when he was President, email was largely interoffice mail. He also stated that email also created the opportunity for it to be subpoenaed. When the conversation turned to twitter, the former President said:

“I think I’m sort of insecure, like what if you tweet and nobody tweets back? There’s nothing worse than a friendless tweeter. You’re just wandering around in cyberspace.”

Then Colbert informed the former President that he had signed him up for the social network. Amid small giggle fits, Clinton dictated his first tweet as @PrezBillyJeff for the world to see.

Wouldn’t ya know it? People tweeted back.
