Possible New Internet Trend: The Knife Song

Remember in the movie Pitch Perfect when they arrange a song with a cup as the instrumentation? Take that but switch out the cup and make it a knife song and you have one of the scariest new Internet trends.

The Knife Song trend is a little activity where one places their hand on a table and proceeds to stab the spaces between their fingers to the tune of a little diddy apparently just called, ‘The Knife Song.’

Dear God! Why is this a thing?!

The original video was uploaded a year ago by YouTuber Rusty Cage, who wrote the catchy tune as well. The Knife Game, also called Five Finger Fillet or Hand Roulette, has been around for some time now, usually played by intoxicated fellows or … to be honest I can not think of another group of people who would go out of their way to play this for fun. This does not seem like a fun activity. I cringe every time I watch these videos.

The song itself is pretty catchy, the lyrics just get stuck in your head:

Oh, I have all my fingers, the knife goes chop chop chop
If I miss the spaces in between, my fingers will come off
And if I hit my fingers, the blood will soon come out
But all the same, I play this game, cause that’s what it’s all about
Oh, CHOP CHOP CHOP CHOP CHOP CHOP CHOP
I’m picking up the speed
And If I hit my fingers then my hand will start to bleed

For what I can gather, the song was never meant to turn into a trend, but thanks to good ‘ole Reddit, the video gained quite a bit of attention and has gathered a number copycats. Check out YouTuber Hanna Ellingster‘s rendition of the Knife Song.

QUESTION:

How do we stop this from becoming the next Harlem Shake?
