So, it’s getting to the end of the year, and one of the things in this Nerd Porn I want to jump into a bit more is the year in gaming. So let’s get going.
I… am not going to touch the blowjob machine.
This video, made by Malcolm Klock, really gave me the feels:
It’s been a hell of a year for gaming, and this post is going to be spoiler-heavy, so be warned. The song used in this video comes from Mass Effect 3, specifically this particularly brutal scene.
Games throughout this year have really kicked into a higher gear when it came to emotional tone and resonance. There have been so many amazing moments that it’s all I can do to keep from watching videos all day. Assassin’s Creed III is chock full of killer moments. This kill scene is just so perfectly constructed:
Particularly with ACIII, characters have become deeper, more emotionally affecting. Even most recently with Far Cry 3, this scene happens fairly early into the game and hit me crazy hard.
People in these worlds are frail. Sometimes irrational. Brave. But they’re never just one thing anymore. They’ve become full people with different reactions in different situations. And strong emotional connections with one another, as evidenced in Halo 4, a game series that didn’t start with that kind of real characterization.
With games like Watch Dogs coming around the corner, I can’t help but be excited. 2012 was an incredible year, but I think 2013 has a lot more where that came from.
Also, on another note, how awesome is this?
Question: What scene in gaming affected you on a personal level?
