All right, if Looper or The Master ain’t your particular cups of tea, there’s going to be plenty coming up that may hit that I-want-to-get-out-of-the-heat-and-watch-something-my-God-it’s-so-hot spot.
So we’ve got Johnny Depp putting an effing crow on his head, Daniel Radcliffe getting into more adult fare, and a whole ark’s worth of famous people doing terrible things.
The Lone Ranger – Armie Hammer, Johnny Depp
Okay, so Depp’s got a bird on his head. That’s… something. Armie Hammer, who was pretty damn good as the Winklevoss twins in The Social Network, will be playing the title character. Thus far, they’ve shown… well, very little of what he’s going to be doing in that movie.
Gore Verbinski (The Pirates series) will be directing, which guarantees a good spectacle. The trailer’s showing piles upon piles of bullets (which were apparently free back in those days)
Horns – Daniel Radcliffe
Let’s just, y’know, get the headlines out of the way: “Daniel Radcliffe takes his career by the Horns” “Potter star throws up the Horns” “Radcliffe gets Horn-y.”
That last one, I predict, will be in the New York Post.
But this is a serious film. Based off of Joe Hill’s 2010 novel, Radcliffe’s character wakes up in this dark fantasy to find out that everyone believes that he raped and murdered his girlfriend. Oh, and he’s growing horns out of his head. And his horns give him special powers.
So, Radcliffe is aggressively avoiding the Zac Efron romantic comedy recursive loop.
Movie 43 – Everyeffingone
Yup. That’s a screencap from the movie. Movie 43 is one of those ensemble pieces – much like The Ten – where you have a bunch of actors in disconnected vignettes being terrible people.
What’s different is that, not only are there a dump truck’s worth of actors, there’s also a whole lotta directors. Bob Odenkirk, Elizabeth Banks, Peter Farrelly, James Gunn, and… Brett Ratner, I guess? There’s more, yeah.
Banks, as well as Kristen Bell, Terrence Howard, Chloe Moretz, Hugh Jackman, Naomi Watts, Mclovin, and a whole bunch more are in there. Mostly just being dicks to one another. Which tends to be entertaining!
