Activist Angelo Carusone has filed a petition encouraging Macy’s to cut ties with the eccentric tycoon effective immediately.
Unlike some of the other petitions that have been filed after the election, this one seems to have some serious traction with the U.S. population. 463,000 people have put their signatures to the SignOn petition, agreeing that Donald Trump should receive the ‘You’re fired!” treatment from the family friendly clothing store.
The petition cites that Trumps sexist behavior, hypocrisy, climate change denial, racially charged birther-obsessions, and all of the other terrible things he is infamous for, as the reasons the company should cut all ties with Trump.
The approaching holiday season has Macy’s heavily promoting several brands that are tied to the out-of-touch mogul and the company even has a Christmas Themed commercial starring Trump that is set to air soon. Macy’s CEO, Terry J. Lundgren reached out to the perpetually windblown billionaire stating his excitement over their new working relationship. Trump has just launched a new brand of clothing that Macy’s is committed to promoting.
Petitioners hope that the company cutting ties with Trump will send the very clear message that even the mega rich will be held accountable for their behavior.
Whether or not the company agrees remains to be seen.
