French Gangster Explodes Out Of Prison

Redoine Faid, a self proclaimed modern-day gangster, broke out of prison and is now the target of an international manhunt.

Faid who fashioned himself after some of the greatest gangsters in films was back in prison for the second time shortly after swearing off his wicked ways.

Now, he’s free again after a brazen escape from prison.

Faid held five people, four of the guards, hostage at gunpoint in the detention center in the northern city of Lille yesterday. He exploded his way to freedom, detonating explosives that destroyed five doors on the way out.

At current, Faid’s whereabouts are unknown. A European arrest warrant that covers 26 countries has been issued and Interpol is working to track down the elusive convict.

Only one person was unfazed by Faid’s combustive escape, and that is Jean-Louis Pelletier, Faid’s lawyer. Pelletier had planned to meet with his client in a few days to prepare for an upcoming trial for an attack that left a 26 year-old police woman dead. Pelletier stated:

“He is remarkably intelligent, and he is using his intellect to serve his ambitions. (And Faid) cannot stand being imprisoned anymore.”

Faid’s escape has evoked some disturbing questions. How did an inmate get a hold of both a gun and explosives? How is it that he still remains at large?

The Lille-Sequedin penitentiary from which Faid escaped is not old, but not well designed to keep watch of the prisoners, stated the theory put out by Jimmy Delliste, a former associate director there.
