DBOTD: Toddler Wanders into Traffic TWICE, Parents Jailed

For the second time in two months, the same two year old boy was found wandering around a busy four-lane road in St. Louis.
The poor kid was found on Friday at 8 am, wearing only a soiled diaper. When a man stopped to help him, the little guy pointed to a house nearby and said “Mommy”. The good samaritan called the police. The police then went to the home the child pointed to and found his father, Nathan M. Woods, sleeping. Woods said he thought the boy’s mother had him.

This is the SECOND time the boy was found running across the intersection. In the initial incident Child Protective Services were called but the mother was able to retain custody of her children.

To make matters worse, as the police were placing Woods under arrest for misdemeanor charges of child endangerment officers received a report of a drunken driver. The caller described the vehicle that pulled into the driveway of the home they were still standing in. The driver, police say, was the boy’s mother Kristal J. Rushing.

Rushing was arresting for driving under the influence. She was both drunk and high on marijuana, and the police also found pot and drug paraphernalia in her vehicle.

The boy was unharmed but his parents are have both been arrested. Police say that the home they were living in was in bad shape and smelled of urine.

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services took both children into protective custody.

“They have been placed in a loving home.”We have opened an investigation into an allegation of neglect, which is pending.”
