Apple faces having to pay out Samsung’s legal fees as ramifications for “not apologizing well enough.”
After posting an apology to Samsung that they had to rewrite and even pushing the rewritten apology down their page with Javascript, a UK court has ordered Apple to pay Samsungs legal fees in order to make recompense.
The Court of Appeal in England and Wales has been ordered to pay the fees on an “indemnity basis”, stating that Apple’s initial apology was false and misleading since they referred to other cases outside the UK which they had won to spin the loss into a positive. It is part of UK law that the loser in a court case must pay out the legal fees of the winning party, but in this case the court has ordered Apple to pay out every cent for behaving so petty over the loss.
On top of this Apple has also recently given into pressure by Switzerland’s Federal Railways Service for copying the design of the new clock unveiled as part of the iOS 6 update mid-September. The clock was originally designed in the 1940′s by Hans Hilfiker and is considered symbolic to both the company and country. Apple agreed to license the clocks design for a reported 21 million dollars for use on the iPad.
This is certainly not the first or last time Apple has been litigation for infringement. Especially since Steve Jobs was famous for quoting Picasso’s line “Good Artists copy, great artists steal.
